The Green Triangle and the Drug War: http://members.fortunecity.com/multi19/triangle.htm

Ask former Canadian In-Justice Minister Irwin Cotler why he lied by omission in his 2005 letter surrendering Renee Boje to US authorities for extradition to face trial and possibly receive a mandatory-minimum cannabis sentence of 10 years to life in prison.

Click for more charts. What Irwin Cotler says in the above quote is a lie by omission. He omits the fact that a Canadian court would probably give no sentence at all to Renee Boje once they found out that she had been watering medical cannabis plants while illustrating a book on medical cannabis. Some of the judges would probably call her a saint after declaring her not guilty.

Shocking to the Canadian conscience?

10 years to life in prison for watering medical cannabis plants or selling cannabis seeds? Irwin Cotler uses similar logic for surrendering Marc Emery up for extradition to the USA for a possible mandatory-minimum sentence of ten years to life in prison. For the "crime" of selling mailorder cannabis seeds to the USA. A "crime" that seems to no longer be a "crime" in Canada. Where one branch of government, Health Canada, tells people to order cannabis seeds from the internet. There are many mailorder cannabis seed sellers in Canada paying taxes and openly selling to the USA.

Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

"This section [52] of the Constitution gives the courts the power to rule that a particular law is not valid if it violates the Charter, which is itself part of the Constitution."
http://www.pch.gc.ca/progs/pdp-hrp/canada/guide/constitution_e.cfm "The Charter regulates interactions between the state (federal, provincial and territorial governments) and individuals. It is, in some respects, Canada's most important law because it can render invalid or inoperative any laws that are inconsistent with its provisions. For more than 20 years, the Charter has been the driving force of change, progress and the affirmation of our society's values. Canadian courts have rendered more than 300 decisions in which they invoke the Charter to bring Canadian laws into accordance with the principles and values of Canadian society."

Quotes below are from this page:
http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca/progs/pdp-hrp/docs/cat/fd_e.cfm

"According to the Court, extradition will violate s. 7 [section 7 of the Charter] if the imposition of the penalty by the foreign state would shock the Canadian conscience."

"Extradition should be refused only where the sentence is so grossly disproportionate to the gravity of the alleged offence that it is fundamentally unjust."
