The SES study in PDF form was converted to the gif images linked above. The freeware Adobe Acrobat Reader opens PDF document files. It can convert any pdf page, or part of a page, to an image in the clp format.

Many of the MMM banners, posters, flyers, and handbills were converted from PDF files to the gif and jpg images found here. The freeware Adobe Acrobat Reader and the freeware IrfanView were used. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html http://www.irfanview.com - IrfanView is a free image editor that is useful for adapting these flyers and banners for your needs. Picasa and Gimp are 2 other highly-rated freeware image editors. Look up their download pages in Google.
GIF image files are usually better for flyers and banners. JPG image files usually require more kilobytes, and are mainly for photos and images with lots of color gradation. IrfanView can easily edit, reduce, or enlarge gif, jpg, and other image formats.
A PDF file, or part of one, can be converted to an image file (such as a gif or jpg file). Here's how: Launch the Adobe Acrobat Reader by clicking on the PDF file. Put the image to its actual size "100%" (or any other size) by clicking on "zoom to" in the view menu. Then click on the "snapshot tool" icon on the toolbar. Select the area you want to convert to an image file. Click copy in the edit menu. Click "clipboard viewer" in the window menu. Click "save as" in the Clipboard Viewer file menu. Name the image file. Then save it as a .clp file anywhere in your hard drive by browsing around in the folders on the right side. Once saved, find the .clp file and click it. Your image editor will open the image file. If your installed image editor is the freeware IrfanView it will open the .clp file. Click "save as" in the file menu of IrfanView to convert it to a gif or jpg file.
One can use the commercial program, Adobe Illustrator, to create PDFs. Design the flyer, handbill, banner, or poster, and click "Save As.." Then choose "PDF" from the format options. There is a dialog box that comes up, allowing the adjustment of options for saving. Choose "Save for Print" and that's it.

About extracting the text of a PDF file. The text in some PDF pages can be extracted by using the tools in the menus of the free Adobe Reader. Sometimes this can't be done. Other times one can google the PDF file, and find it in the Google results. Sometimes Google will create an HTML version of the PDF file. Open that up and copy and paste the text. PDF editors may be able to extract the text more easily. See the list of PDF editors farther up.
