On Sunday, August 21, 2005, the day after the rally the police roughed up people at the Up In Smoke Cafe:
"-When a patron, named Cameron exited the members only area he was illegally searched. During this unwarranted search the patron's pipe was recovered from his pants. He was arrested and roughed up. Outside the cafe they forced him to the ground grinding his face into the asphalt while at the same time pulling his hair and kneeling on his back. -Sam (a female) witnessed the abuse and shouted "You're pulling his f---ing hair". She was arrested. -Whitney protested against the abuse and was felled by a punch to the throat! On the ground an officer choked her throat with two hands while she gestured a peace sign with each hand. -As Whitney turned red, Drew approached and was tackled by two officers. He was arrested. NONE OF THE UP IN SMOKE PATRONS WERE VIOLENT, NOR DID THEY RESIST ARREST. Drew was mistreated in custody and told "All that fun you had yesterday is going to cost you today." Cameron was threatened with a tazer, accused of smoking "angry weed" and left the police station with bruises on his body and a dislocated jaw. Whitney has been left with a swollen neck with broken blood vessels. I have spoken to each arrestee before posting this and will write more later." -- The above quote is from this forum post.

One of the officers has since apologized according to the CC forum thread.

On the same page of that forum thread see these 2 archived Hamilton Spectator newspaper articles about the peaceful rally on Saturday, and the outrageous police violence and arrests on Sunday.

Ron Bennett of Marihemp.com and Cannabis.com writes in an August 25, 2005 message:
"Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (L.E.A.P) is an organization aimed primarily towards people who currently are / have worked in law enforcement; L.E.A.P. is operated by Jack Cole, who retired, after 26 years of service (14 in narcotics division), from the New Jersey State Police."
